What is chicken pox?

Measles is a disease that causes a rash. (Measles is also known as varicella-zoster.) Most people get the disease at a young age if they are not vaccinated against measles.

Children can catch colds every day. Your child may feel well after chickenpox for one to three weeks before becoming ill.

The virus spreads as follows:

1.              Talk to a smallpox patient.
2.              The patient’s breathing is wheezing or coughing.
3.              Touch the liquid into the child’s eyes, nose or mouth.

             Can smallpox be fatal?

             Smallpox mortality is low. Most people recover without complications. However, people die from this disease. In the United States, the number is about 20 deaths per year after vaccination compared to 100 deaths before vaccination. This is an 84% decrease from more than 10,000 per year.

 
             Who should not get the smallpox vaccine?

1.              There are people who should not get the smallpox vaccine. Do not get the measles vaccine:
2.                  Allergy to vaccines or any part of a vaccine.
3.                  You are pregnant or think you might be.
4.                  You have problems with your immune system.
5.                  You have tuberculosis.
6.                  You are not happy. (Get the vaccine when you are healthy.)
7.                  More recently, blood transfusions or other life-saving drugs have been added.

             Can I get chickenpox twice?

             People get measles twice, but it can happen.
             How many days does it take to get rid of chicken pox?

             A cold usually goes away after 10-14 days.
             When should you call your doctor if your child has chickenpox?

             If your child:

1.                  He misbehaves and has a headache.
2.                  He had a cut in his eye.
3.                  It is a large wound or tumor.
4.                  He breathes loudly or rapidly.
